Musical Baton · 19 May 05
My friend over at Blueplaidshirt.com passed over the now famous “Musical Baton” over to me. I figure this would be a good time to update the blog, so here goes:
Total volume of music on my computer
25.5 GB. I have been trying as of late to put my entire CD collection on my Powerbook (and iPod). What a tedious task this has become. I can now hide the CDs in a closet and pipe the music wirelessly through the house.
Last CD purchased
Silent Alarm by Bloc Party – This album just flat out rocks.
Song playing right now
Whiney Bitches by Medeski, Martin & Wood – An iTunes exclusive single from MMW that is quite unique in their repertoire. Progressive and edgy. Glad I found it.
Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me
Murder by Coldplay – Easily the best song by the quartet to date. A rare B side that is a bit depressing lyrically, but has a guitar riff to die for. I’m so addicted to this song I play it once a day (almost).
Anonymous Skulls by Medeski, Martin & Wood – Killer opening song for a decent album. Signals the return to their genre spanning funk-jazz-jam-rock-electronic roots.
Pick up the Pieces by Gomez – A rare B side single that is full of rich bass lines, Ben’s amazing vocals, and Tom’s keyboard. This is an ideal song to introduce Gomez to your buddies.
How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead – A lot of music critics rate OK Computer above Kid A, but I tend to disagree. This album shaped their future and their new music direction. This song is brilliant in execution and rises to a crescendo and sprials downhill afterwards. Brilliant!
Dreaming Tree by Dave Matthews Band – Having been a long time DMB fan and seen countless shows, I have only seen this song performed live one time. The studio version includes some great flute work by Leroi and some of the best bass work from Stefan. A live version is truly a treat and very rare.
I could spend hours listing my favorite songs and why and maybe I will in the near future.
I pass the baton onto my good friend Adrian
... must get back to packing.
